Maricruz Montoya stood on the corner of the busy streets late in the afternoon. She was feeling a bit chilly despite this being Miami, since she was wearing only a bikini top, short jean skirt and of course high heel shoes. Despite her state of undress, she didnt really stick out in this area of downtown Miami. It was a notorious spot to pick up hookers. And since there was a strip joint on the corner of every block around here, no one would really give her a second look, unless they were interested in something from her.
Maricruz would have preferred to have more clothes on while she worked the streets (wondering why the term undercover cop didnt include more coverings for her body), but she was comfortable enough with how she looked to be willing to dress this way in order to get a bust. Hookers knew the dirt on everything, not just the prostitution circles in the city but also the drug lords, the gang hangouts, if there was anything seedy going on in the city, the whores were the ones who knew all about it.

Andrew was technically off duty, but it just seemed like the work never ended. He was taking a few minutes to just walk around the town, enjoy the cool afternoon air before going back to his apartment and getting some rest. Rest that would not last long since he had to go back to work in a few hours. But what time he did have, he would enjoy. He put his hands in pockets, looking down at the ground as he walked.
That probably wasn't the smartest thing to do because while his gaze was directed at the ground, he bumped into a woman that he hadn't seen. "Crikey!" He said, a bit of his Australian lingo coming out. He usually didn't use that kind of vocabulary in his work place...it was just something that slipped out every now and then. And right now, it came out because he was caught off guard. He looked at the woman and it didn't take long to realize what line of work she was in to. He did not judge her though. She might have a dramatic story, a less than ideal living situation and this was the only way for her to make money.
It was really at this moment that he realized what part of town he was in. He briefly looked around. How did he end up here? Well, he knew how he came to be here, but he hadn't realized he was walking in this general direction. He had been too wrapped up in his own thoughts. "I'm sorry Miss, I wasn't looking where I was going," he admitted shyly, feeling rather stupid for bumping into her.

Maricruz had her eye on one of the pimps on the opposite corner from her that was talking to one of her girls, and also wasnt paying too close attention to her immediate surroundings when the australian guy bumped into her. She jumped and tensed up as the male intruded her personal space. She gripped her small purse tightly. Her gun was in there (as there was no place on her body clothed enough to conceal a weapon). If this guy started trouble she'd be ready.
She was about ready to snap back at him telling him to watch where he was going when he apologized. And even more than that he called her 'Miss'. She definitely wasnt used to people calling her that when she was dressed like this. To be honest not many people were that polite when she was dressed in her normal clothing either. She looked at him, her face obviously displaying her confusion as she nodded. "Yeah...no harm done"
Maricruz then wondered if maybe the reason why this guy had bumped into her and why he was being so nice was because he was trying to pick her up. Maybe he had never gotten a hooker before and was shy. "Are you....looking for someone?"

She didn't look very happy that he bumped into her...then again, this was that sort of area. There were probably a lot of pervs lurking around. Not that he was one of them, but she didn't know that did she. If he were to say 'I'm not a perv'...that would just make him sound even more like one. Best to stay quiet. Well, he couldn't stay too quiet because she asked him a question and it would be rude not to answer. He had already been rude for bumping into her.
"Looking for someone? Um, no, I just...lost track of where I was going." Boy did that sound like a lame excuse. He did feel bad for these woman...he would have offered to help, but it would look too offensive and suggestive if he gave her money. "I am sorry for disturbing you while you were working." Andrew needed to learn when to shut up. "I mean, while you're looking for work. Me standing around here talking probably isn't good for business." Yes, he was probably just digging his hole deeper. He really had never chatted to a prostitute before. This was a first. Sure he had seen them before, since they were rather common here...but he had never conversed with one for this long. And he certainly had never hired one before either.

Maricruz couldnt tell if this man was actually telling her the truth and wasnt looking for someone here, or if he was just still working up to the nerve to pick up the hooker. She almost hoped for his sake that he would chicken out if it was the latter. He didnt seem like someone who would need to pick up hookers either, but sometimes the people who did surprised her.
"I dont need to look for work, it'll find me" Maricruz told him, having to keep her cover and act like she was here to pick up Johns. "You're not disturbing me though, its pretty slow now anyway, so dont worry about it" She added, since he had been polite to her.

She seemed confident. Then again, she was an attractive woman. Hookers were supposed to be attractive though, right? But even with that in mind, he wasn't just thinking that because of the way she was dressed. Unfortunately, thats what attracted a lot of their "customers".
"I am sorry to hear that. I hope business picks up." No, that didn't sound right. It sounded as if he hoped that some guy drove by and took her to a cheap motel for a few hours, paying her to have sex and do...whatever it was that he wanted for the time being. Man. That didn't sound good at all. 'I mean, well, I hope you um.." He cleared his throat, not even sure what he was saying anymore. He needed a distraction...maybe introducing himself was a good way to do that. "I'm D-" Woah! He couldn't introduce himself as a detective. He wasn't going to arrest her. "Drew! Andrew. Well, some people call me Drew." No they didn't. No one called him Drew, but it was the best thing he could think of.

Maricruz raised her eyebrows and smirked a little as the guy she was talking to told her he hoped business picked up. He was basically saying he hoped that she had a lot of sex today. That just seemed odd, but at the same time she was pretty sure that he hadnt meant it that way, or at least she hoped that he wasnt imagining her having sex with lots of guys in one day. That would definitely be creepy.
She was surprised at how nervous he seemed just introducting himself. It was almost as if he had forgotten his own name. Maricruz extended her hand to shake his as he introduced himself, hoping that wouldnt make him even more uncomfortable. "Nice to meet you Drew, or Andrew...I'm Maricruz"

He shook her hand, thankful that she didn't seem to think he was completely strange. Of if she did, she was being polite by not saying anything to him. His people skills weren't the best. He wasn't even working a case right now, so trying to maintain a conversation was rather difficult for him. That would certainly explain the strange things he was saying...they were coming out all wrong.
"It's nice to meet you too Maricruz. Is that your real name?" Oh god. If he was able to kick himself, he would have right now, right there. Why was he saying the stupidest things? He should just have stayed quiet. He usually knew not to speak his mind. But right now, he was feeling flustered. Maybe it was because she was a hooker...maybe it was because she was dressed that way...maybe it was just the area he was in...or maybe...most likely, it was a combination of all things. "Because if it is, its a lovely name," he added with a shy smile. He meant what he had said, but he was also trying to redeem himself...if that was even possible at this point

Maricruz was glad when he shook her hand. It didnt seem to confuse him more, and he also didnt seem repulsed by the idea of touching a 'hooker' as if everything about her was probably diseased.
She was surprised again as he asked if it was her real name. It was true a lot of the girls wouldnt use their real names, but not many people would ask them if it was or wasnt real. "My name can be whatever you want it to be" She told him, knowing that the girls sold the fantasy. If a guy wanted to call them something else, they didnt care. She smiled as he said it was a lovely name. "Thank you, and yes, Maricruz is my real name, but I dont give out my last name to people I'm never going to see again" She told him. She kept her last name to herself as part of her cover, it was easier that way. But also answering to Maricruz was easier for her to not screw up.
She then realized that she was now the one saying the wrong thing. It probably sounded like she was saying that she would never see him again (which although true was probably also a bit rude). "I'm sorry, I just meant thats why I dont mind giving out my real first name to people, its still safe that way"
