After searching online for abandoned warehouses, through real estate and tax records, Rudy knew the next step was to drive to the locations and scope them and the neighborhoods out.
He had quite a few locations to search and they were all over the place: Coral Gables, Liberty City, South Miami, Sweetwater, the Roads, Overtown and Westchester. Most weren't the best of neighborhoods, which could definitely work for what Rudy wants to do.
An hour later, he covered a few and came upon the one in South Miami. The area was very deserted. There wasn't much nearby for tourists or even the natives, being that most of this section was industrial and abandoned industrial at that.
Rudy stopped his car, got out and walked toward the building. He had seen it was empty. There was a weak chain and padlock on the door which Rudy felt could be easily removed. He said to himself he needs to come back here tonight to further investigate... perhaps even bring a victim this time to truly get a feel for the place.
He returned to his car and drove to the next warehouse on his list which was in Coral Gables, one of the nicer areas in Miami. As he approached the address, he saw a very nice apartment complex down the street with a sign stating there was availability. He parked, got out and walked into the office.
There was a heavy set woman behind the desk wearing too much make up and chewing gum. She looked up at Rudy, "Can I help you?" she asked as if he interrupted her relaxation time. "Yes, I see you have available apartments? Is someone here that can show me?" She let out a huge sigh, "Hold on a minute." She picked up the phone and dialed a 3 digit extension. "Patty? There's a man here wanting to see an apartment." She paused. "Ok, I'll tell him." She hung up the receiver and turned back to Rudy, "She'll be right out." Rudy couldn't believe her rudeness, but thanked her anyway.
Moments later, a tall, curvy, attractive woman with long brown hair and the greenest eyes Rudy had ever seen, came out of the office door. She greeted Rudy with a smile and a handshake, "Hello, my name's Patricia. What would you be interested in today?" Rudy was very pleased she would help him rather than this insolent excuse for a woman behind the desk. "Hi I'm Rudy and I wanted to see an apartment. I want to say right off the bat that if the price and look are right, I'll put down the deposit before I leave here today."
Patricia smiled, pleasantly surprised she just may get a sale today. She was way under her quota and in danger of being fired.
She brought them up on the elevator to the third floor and showed him an end apartment. "This is one of our best. The previous resident suddenly moved to Chicago, getting a transfer from her job and I just put out the sign this morning. This is available to move in immediately." The woman continued, "This is a very sought after area and this particular complex is very popular with more professionals, especially the medical community."
"That's great. I work in the hospital myself." Rudy walked through and before he even made it into the bedroom, he said, "I'll take it. Let's fill out the paperwork!"
