Elaina had been in town a total of week before she started her first day at Miami Metro. It had been just enough time to move everything into her new place, after she was able to find it of course. She had not known how hard it was to transplant yourself from one place to the next but was at least happy that the move was over and she could settle into her new job which she hoped would be a lot like her last job, and she figured it would be.
She had entered the station with a large box under her arm with all of her things in it. It wasn't much, just a few things like calanders and date books as well as herr lab coat and other supplies she brought with her. She had to wait for what felt like forever as she was given an access badge and then had to wait to be shown to the labs.
She was greeted by an annoying little man who ended up making a sexual inuendo 3 times before they even reached the labs. She used to be bothered by things like that and now was able to take them in strides smiling through it all. He showed her to her designated lab and she was able to set her things up around the office making it feel more like a livable area.
She had known that they were in need of a DNA analyst but was surprised at how many case folders were waiting for her. She began to go through them and look for the samples that went with them, still trying to become accoustomed to the system they had at the department.
It was a bit over-whelming and hard for her to understand. She took the case folder she was working on and stuck her head out of her lab. She did not want to have to ask the man who had showed her around for any more help than she needed to and looked for another face to help her. She settled on the unassuming man a few labs over and after a soft knock on the door entered.

Dexter was finishing up his blood report for Doakes. He really wasnt in any rush to get the report to the Seargant, but he wanted it done so that in case anyone else asked for it, he could show he was on top of things. He had just finished signing his name to the bottom of one of the forms when he heard a knock at his door.
Finally someone thinks to knock, must not be Doakes or MasukaHe thought before answering "Come in"
He watched the young woman open up the door. She didn't look familiar but he saw she had an ID badge. Maybe she worked on a different floor. "Hi...what can I do for you"

Elaina entered the lab and left the door open as she stepped in. She smiled a little nervous about not really knowing this person. It was always hardest for her to approach people for the first time. She was fine when she was the one approached but she was awkward and didn't know how to handle herself when asking others for help.
She held up the case file and cleared her throat before speaking. "Hi, I was wondering if you could help me out with this. I'm the new DNA analyst and I'm sorry but the filing system here is way to crazy for me to grasp," she said with a nervous laugh. "I can't find practically anything that I'm supposed to be testing."
She shifted a bit in one spot and placed her latex gloved hand on the counter beside her. "Oh, I'm Elaina by the way. You can call me Ellie, most do." She extended the hand she had placed on the counter to him and smiled a bit wider.

"Oh" Dexter said as he listened to the woman describe what she wanted. It always amazed him when people saw him as an approachable person, someone who could be helpful. He knew it was a good thing, so whatever caused them to believe that about him, he'd keep it up. "I mean, yeah, I'd be glad to help you out"
He smiled and shook her latex covered hand. "Dexter Morgan, resident blood spatter guy" He introduced himself. "Has anyone shown you your office yet? That's usually a good first place to start"

Elaina nodded at his introduction. "Good to meet you Dexter Morgan," she said, repeating his name as she always did meeting new people. It helped her to commit names and faces to memory. She had started to do it more in the recent years. She never wanted to be unable to identify what someone looked like ever again.
"Um, I guess Matzuka....Masuka?" she said almost to herself not sure if she had remembered it correctly. "Short guy, glasses, sexual inuendos, he showed me my lab, but I have no idea how the last DNA analyst you had kept anything and it doesn't really seem like the people here like to give you a chance to settle in before giving you work to do," she said with a laugh.
She was nervous around most people but had a way of concealing it in order to get through the day. It was true that this Dexter set her on edge a little less than the person who had showed her to her lab, but people who were like that often were off-putting to her. He seemed helpful or willing enough to help. She was always weary of new people though and she studied him a bit as she spoke. "I just need a crash course in how to navigate that lab and then I'll purge it and organize it in an understandable manner. It's a nightmare in there."

"Good to meet you too Elaina" Dexter replied politely. People always had rituals when they met someone. The introduction, handshake, pleasantries upon meeting...but he wondered if any of them truly were happy to meet a new person. What if that person was a jerk, would they still be so thrilled. He'd think they'd need at least more than a name to know if they were happy about meeting someone.
"Ah, Masuka, yes...hope you survived that encounter " He said with a smile, knowing that Vince being the first impression of the place could never be a good thing. "There's a reason why the last DNA analyst is our former...very unorganized, it showed in his work" Dexter was always meticulous so seeing sloppy work always hit a nerve.
Dexter closed up his file and stood up. "Sure, I'll see if I can help you sort out the mess that was waiting for you"

Elaina nodded with a smile at Dexter's comment. "Well, I'll survive. I've experienced worse believe it or not. There's usually at least one guy who talks like that in every lab I've been in since college. I think it's the intellectual magnitude weighing on the mind. It creates a couple of freaks every now and then," she said jokingly.
She cringed a bit to think that she would have a lot to do with the system to get it to her liking. She was precise and didn't like things to be beyond her control and theat meant everything, even a filing system. "Well, I promise if i ever get fired it isn't going to be for that reason. I'm very tidy." That was an understatement.
"Great, I'm so glad you can help me. I really don't know anyone here and was afraid I was going to get canned the first day for not getting anything done," she said with a laugh as she stepped out of Dexter's lab. "I was not going to as Masuka. I don't think I can handle two barages of that in one day just yet." She talked as she made her way into the hall and to he lab turning to the stack of boxes that were placed in the corner of the room. "That's what I have to work with. Mostly that's what I've been told to go through and reorganize and a few of the samples have to be re-run, but I can't find them anywhere."

Dexter laughed at her comment about how there was always a guy like Masuka in the lab, due to the intellect creating the freaks. This woman had a sense of humor. "That's true. Masuka is definitely the worst in this office"
He nodded hearing her speak of how tidy she was. "Glad to hear it." He said though he hoped she wouldn't be losing the job anytime soon. Anytime one of the lab techs got fired, or quit, it created more work for the entire department. That meant more work for him, less time for his extracurricular activities.
"I'll to my best to see to it you dont get fired your first day. Now you know someone you can come to for help around here" Dexter told her. He didnt mind being the guy people came to for help around the office. It made him more likeable. Dexter stopped in the doorway for a moment looking at the stack of boxes. She was left with a lot, she wasnt exaggerating. He then walked in figuring they better get started. "Hopefully with the two of us we'll find them somewhere"

Elaina screwed up her face a bit at the idea. "I'll have to keep that in mind," she said thinking of how she would try and stay away from the man for the most part but was sure she could keep herself from being overwhelmed by him in brief encounters. "Although, the way that you say that kind of implies that there is more than one. At which I must cringe to think that there are more freaks in this department. At least you seem normal enough," she said with a laugh.
"Well, I have them seperated pretty much by month it looks like. I guess he's a little behind on it but I can start on the earliest box we have here and if you want to try out the next it would be great. I don't need you to run anything, just helping me catalogue will be a big help. I actually don't let anyone run samples in my lab. They all have to go through me," she said picking up a box and bringing it over to the counter.
She opened the box and began pulling out samples that were not ordered in anyway that she would have placed them in there. It made herr a little sick to think of someone being so unorganized. "Keep that in mind. I know you work with blood, so if you need anything run," she pointed her thumb at herself with a sideways grin, "It comes right here. Like I said I'm picky."

“Aren’t there usually more than one?” He said smiling as she told him he seemed normal enough. “Thanks” It was nice to hear confirmation of how normal the world saw him. Harry would be so proud of him. He had managed to keep the cover of being normal.
He looked around at the boxes as she mentioned how she had pretty much separated them all by months. “Looks like you have a good start then. I can help you catalogue as long as I don’t get a page”
He raised an eyebrow as she mentioned how she didn’t let anyone run samples in her lab. She seed pretty protective over her work, which was both a good and bad thing. “Yeah, well I guess that’s something we have in common, I don’t let anyone work with my blood either” He said knowing that could cause some conflicts in the future, but hopefully nothing too serious.

"That's great," she said moving to one of the boxes and placing it on the counter in front of him. "I understand, work must go on," she said with a laugh. "I expect that once I have things in order, this won't have to be done again. I just can't see how someone can work this way." She shivered slightly at the thought and went back to her box.
She didn't work much with anything that needed to be analysed for blood spatter but there was always the chance that someone could bring it to the wrong lab. She did DNA testing after that was all done. "I will keep that in mind if the occassion ever arrises. We should be able to co-exist well if we keep those things in line."

Dexter took the lid off of the box she put in front of him. "So have they given you a pager yet? And a laminate? The laminate really is the best part of the job, may not look as fancy as the badges the big boys get, but much easier to keep clean" Dexter joked with her. It was a light joke, unlike Masuka's sexual ones that offended most people. Dexter found it usually made people like him better when he joked.
"Well if you do ever need this done again, dont hesitate to ask..we're a friendly enough department" Dexter told her. He was glad that his comment about working on his own samples too hadnt stirred anything up. Causing conflict this early would not be a fun thing to deal with. "I dont think we should have a problem coexisting either"
