History: Harry was brought up in a middle class home and decided at a young age he wanted to be a police officer. He joined the force to help people and bring criminals to justice. Soon after graduating high school he was accepted to the police academy and finished it shortly after. He worked in vice then narcotics and in that time period even managed to find a wife and settle down.
Soon after being married though the strain of the job started to take a toll on his relationship with his wife and he began to stray. He began an affair with one of his informants while working on a case. The young woman was alluring to him and was a bit younger adding to the thrill.
He was practically devastated when he found her body in a storage container, cut to pieces with a chainsaw. In the container were the woman's two sons, one of whom he adopted. He found Dexter in his mother's blood with his brother and felt the need to save the three year old seeing as he felt her was the cause of the woman's death. The older son was too traumatized by the event and Harry allowed him to be turned over to the state. He hoped to care for Dexter and give him the loving family he would need to develop into a functional human being, despite having seen his mother's grizzly demise.
Not long after adopting Dexter he and his wife were blessed with a daughter of their own. Harry cared for them both equally at first but when he found indications that his attempts to protect Dexter from being damaged by what he had witnessed at the age of three had not worked he focused his attentions more on his son.
He could tell that Dexter was not going to be normal and could see the signs of his dark future at a young age. He had been trained to pick up on those things and had recently transfered to homicide where he was faced with the reality of what Dexter would become. He took measures to ensure that Dexter would be able to channel his urges and use them for a purpose. He created the code and trained Dexter to be a killer who would not get caught. It was all he could do for his son and he believed it was a good thing to have him keep killers off the streets when justice could not be served by conventional means.
He could not deal with being faced with the reality of Dexter being a killer however and upon finding him in the act was repulsed. No matter what good Dexter's work did he could not stand to see what his son truly was. He overdosed on his heart medication and killed himself. It was something he had never meant for his children to find out.
